Cha Yo-han ‘Doctor John’

Doctor John or Doctor Yo-Han is a K-drama I watched most recently, and I can’t seem to move on from it. Simply because I fell in love with Cha Yo-han’s character who is passionate about his work, and is persevere and tenacious when it comes to treating his patients. He really loves healing other people despite being a patient himself. But probably, it is his sickness that allows him to feel great empathy towards his patients and become such a dedicated doctor.

Cha Yo-han suffers from CIPA (Congenital insensitivity to pain with anhidrosis), a condition where he cannot feel pain and temperature. People with this disease are also unable to produce sweat. It is an inherited disease and is very rare with only around 300 cases documented worldwide. Due to this disease, Cha Yo-han must frequently check his condition so he can stay alive.

Cha Yo-han’s love interest is Kang Shi-young, a second year resident and his pupil who works at the same hospital with him. Kang Shi-young is a bright and talented doctor, and together, they make a good partnership. In this drama, Kang Shi-young runs a lot for Cha Yo-han, which is hilarious and is impressive at the same time. She also spends a lot of time worrying about him getting hurt somewhere. The way she loves him is just admirable. We can see clearly that she deeply care about him. She wants to protect him and try her best to understand his condition.

I think their relationship is beautiful. While Cha Yo-Han inspired Kang Shi-young to return to being a doctor, and taught her to love her work, Kang Shi-young has been the only person who understand himself and his diseases who gave him warmth in his world that neither cold nor hot. Personally, I want to be someone like Kang Shi-young for the man I love, who isn’t afraid to show my unconditional attention and isn’t reluctant to express my love.

All in all, Doctor John is a heartwarming show that is successful to makes my heart flutters.
